Tropics SC are first Florida team to advance to UPSL National Final

July 27, 2019 - Weatherford, Texas - There may have only been one team in the UPSL capable of dethroning the reigning Spring Season champions.

Lucas Montelares' goal in the dieing moments of overtime will go down as the defining blow as Florida Tropics SC slipped past Milwaukee Bavarian SC with a 2-1 victory in a UPSL National Semifinal at Kangaroo Stadium.

Tropics SC, the undefeated UPSL Florida and UPSL Southeast Conference champion, got going early with a sharply-hit goal from Xavier Silva in the 12th minute, but Bavarian SC, the back-to-back UPSL Midwest Conference champs, would not go quietly and pressed in numbers in the second half.

Controlling the ball in the attacking half, Bavarian SC big-game composure was evident when Isaac Shlenker received a pass at the top of the box, took a calm touch and slotted a shot past the Tropics goalkeeper in the 62nd minute to tie the game.

Bavarian SC continued to pack numbers into the attack in an attempt to end the highly-anticipated matchup and unofficial 'UPSL East Final' in 90 minutes, but the breakthrough did not come.

Two overtime periods ensued and it wasn't until a corner kick from Tropics SC in the 120th minute that the game reached its conclusion as Montelares got to the ball first, sending it quickly into the back of the net for the game-winner.
